Eye infections, cuddle kits and other thoughts

Currently I have a stye in my eye. Thanks to google I know that this is an infection similar to pink eye - but is not quite so contagious (I was hoping it was so I could work from home for a few days... yep I said that in public)

Anyway, thinking about this stye made me think of a funny memory I want to document from the last time I had an eye infection.

It was right after John and I has started dating. We were in what I will call the "blissful butterflies and hearts stage" where just hearing his name made my heart skip a beat (as opposed to now when I am this jaded married lady who shudders when I hear his name....kidding).

I had pink eye and didn't want him to get it, so we weren't going to see each other for a few days. As young lovers do... we both didn't anticipate the separation. So the second day apart I get a call from John. He is down stairs. He came to see me.  He misses me so much. He has a plan to avoid getting pink eye!

Skeptical, but desperate to see John I let him upstairs. As soon as he came in, he pulled something out of his bag... and proceeded to put these two things on...

Yes friends, those are lab glasses and rubber gloves.

He told me they were his "cuddle kit" and his plan to be with me and not get pink eye. I almost died laughing. I told him I wouldn't come near him with a ten foot pole in that attire, though I did care for his health!

I don't remember using the cuddle kit for long, but I will forever have the image of him in those goggle and gloves seared in my mind with his adorable smile. It makes me laugh and smile to this day.

And that my friends... is what made me fall in love with this stud.

His quirky, silly, scientific, albeit romantic sense of humor.

Some Easter funnies from my Office & Thoughtful Colleagues

There is an incredible Administrative Assistant who works in the office I do, her name is MJ. She decorates for all the holidays and shares comics in her weekly reminder emails. She orders lunch out for folks weekly, and pulls some of the longest hours of anyone in the office. Overall, she is just a great lady and really a shepherd for all of the "sheep" in the office. She takes care of us.

Yesterday she over heard me say that all of her Easter comics made me really want a Chocolate Easter Bunny like when I was a kid. So guess what was on my desk this morning? A Chocolate Easter Bunny. I love people like MJ. She is a great example to me of selfless service and of being in tune with people's needs. This is not the first time she identified a need I had and filled it, even if it was something silly or simple like a chocolate easter bunny.  She once worked adamantly to get me a huge monitor, keyboard and mouse, even though those things are typically not given to consultants but she saw that my laptop was small and hard to use for large files. The point is she thought of me enough to go out and get me a bunny. How inspiring! I hope that I can be that kind of person.

Anyway, wanted to share with you some of the joy of MJ. Here are some of the comics she hung up in our office bulletin board that made me literally laugh out loud.

And in case you are wondering, I already ate the chocolate bunny. It was delicious. Thanks MJ!

Like jalapenos much?

This past spring John and I hade dinner at a local chinese restaraunt one night. When John asked the server what their best dish was, she replied Jalapeno Chicken. John was not in the mood for poultry, so he order the Jalapeno beef instead.

I guess at this place they take their jalapenos pretty seriously. John probably ate 1-2 full jalapenos in the course of his scarfing the food down. And this is what was left on the plate:

And this is what it did to John*:

So glad I captured this. We laughed all night that he and jalapenos were done for a while.

*clarification: I do have a very handsome husband. The excessive jalapenos make him look a little posessed.
